      <image:title>What Do We Want? (2016)</image:title>
<image:caption>What do we Want? is layered with an intentional clutter of representations. Each hand-crafted plate contains symbols and images that present possible answers to the title question, although it may be unclear what those answers are and just who each plate represents: actual individuals, survey percentages, or imagined participants. The cacophony of signifiers mimics the noise of advertising, constantly telling us what our desires ought to be. Is this plate collection a coherent response or does it represent a society unable to decide how to live together?</image:caption>

<image:caption>I wanted to challenge the traditional "make and take" model of craft classes. Participants scraffittoed blue on white porcelain bowls but didn't get to keep their own. Instead they received a bowl made earlier in a different class, and their bowl was fired and given to someone else later. How much time and effort the participant chose to invest in their bowl was up to them and had no bearing on the quality of the bowl they received.</image:caption>
